Android, iOS and HarmonyOS Market Shares Revealed for 2026
Counterpoint Research has released its global smartphone shipment data for the second quarter of 2026, covering the period between April and June. The report shows that Android continues to dominate the worldwide market, while the competition between Android and iOS in the United States has become much closer. Meanwhile, Huawei's HarmonyOS has recorded notable growth in China.
It is important to note that these figures do not represent the total number of smartphones currently in use. Instead, they reflect the operating system distribution of smartphones shipped during the second quarter of 2026.
Android remains the global leader
Android maintained a dominant position in the global smartphone market, accounting for 75% of smartphones shipped during the second quarter.
Apple's iOS captured a 20% global share, while Huawei's HarmonyOS reached 5%.

The Android-iOS race tightens in the United States
In the United States, iOS continues to hold a narrow lead with a 51% share, while Android has climbed to 49%.
This leaves just a two-percentage-point gap between the two major mobile operating systems. The difference is particularly notable when compared with the final quarter of 2025, when iOS reportedly reached a 69% share of smartphone shipments in the US.
The latest figures suggest that competition between Android and iOS has become considerably more balanced in the American market.
HarmonyOS continues to gain ground in China
One of the most notable developments in the report came from China, where Huawei's HarmonyOS increased its share from 19% in the first quarter to 24% in the second quarter of 2026.
Android remains the leading operating system in the country with a 58% market share. However, this represents a decline from the 63% recorded during the previous quarter.
Apple's iOS ranked third in China with an 18% share, up slightly from 17% in the first quarter.
The figures suggest that China's smartphone market is becoming increasingly competitive, with HarmonyOS continuing to strengthen its position alongside Android and iOS.
Android maintains an overwhelming lead in India
The situation in India remains very different. Android continues to dominate the country's smartphone market, reaching a massive 91% share of shipments.
Its share increased from 90% in the previous quarter, while iOS declined from 10% to 9%.
As a result, the gap between Android and iOS in India remains extremely large. Android's strong presence across entry-level and mid-range smartphones continues to play an important role in its dominance of the market.
Global smartphone shipments fall by 11%
According to Counterpoint Research, global smartphone shipments declined by 11% year over year during the second quarter of 2026.
The decline was particularly noticeable in entry-level and mid-range smartphones across developing markets.
Despite the overall decline in shipments, competition between mobile operating systems remains active. Android continues to dominate the global market, iOS remains highly competitive in the United States, and HarmonyOS is emerging as an increasingly important player in China.
