Samsung Officially Unveils the Galaxy Z TriFold: A New Era of Triple-Folding Smartphones

Samsung has officially taken the wraps off its first tri-folding smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, after months of leaks and prototype teasers. With more than 16 foldable devices behind it, Samsung is now pushing the boundaries once again, introducing its largest foldable display to date and pairing it with advanced software features and flagship-grade hardware.

The Z TriFold’s standout feature is its dual titanium hinge system, which allows the inner display to fold inward on both sides, keeping it fully protected when closed. Unlike Huawei’s Mate XT lineup, Samsung places the cover display on the back, while the two inner panels fold toward the center.

When fully unfolded, the main screen stretches to a massive 10 inches, offering a 2,160 x 1,584px resolution, 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and 1,600 nits peak brightness. A small punch-hole on the right side houses a 10MP front-facing camera, and the entire display comes with a pre-applied protective film.

On the outside, the 6.5-inch cover display delivers a 2,520 x 1,080px resolution, a 1–120Hz refresh rate, a 21:9 aspect ratio, and an impressive 2,600 nits peak brightness with Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 protection. It also includes a secondary 10MP selfie camera.

Powered by Android 16-based OneUI 8, the device leverages its expansive real estate to enable advanced multitasking. Users can run three full-size apps side by side, and with its standalone Samsung DeX support—the first ever on a Samsung phone—the Z TriFold can transform into a desktop-like environment when paired with a keyboard and mouse.

Built using Advanced Armor Aluminum, the Z TriFold maintains a sleek silhouette, measuring just 3.9mm at its thinnest point. When folded, it comes in at 159.2 x 75 x 12.9 mm and weighs 309 grams. The device is also rated IP48 for dust and water resistance.

Performance is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, the same chip used in the Z Fold7, paired with 16GB of RAM and either 512GB or 1TB of storage. On the back, Samsung includes the familiar triple camera setup from the Z Fold7: a 200MP main shooter, 10MP 3x telephoto lens, and 12MP ultrawide camera.

The Z TriFold houses a split 5,600 mAh three-cell battery, distributed across its three folding sections, with support for 45W wired and 15W wireless charging.

Samsung will offer the Galaxy Z TriFold in a single Crafted Black finish at launch. While pricing remains under wraps, Samsung confirmed that the device will debut first in South Korea on Friday, December 12, before expanding to markets including China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE, and the United States.
