Norway Sets Record: Nearly All Cars Sold in November Were Electric
November 2025 marked a historic month for Norway’s automotive market. Out of 19,899 vehicles sold, 19,427 were electric, accounting for an impressive 97.6% of total car sales. This surge is unusual for Norway, representing an increase of approximately 8,500 units compared to both November 2024 and October 2025.
Several factors contributed to this dramatic growth. Notably, planned tax changes in 2026 have encouraged consumers to opt for electric vehicles. Attractive discounts from manufacturers and distributors have also played a significant role in boosting sales.
Among all brands, Tesla emerged as the clear leader. The U.S. manufacturer achieved 6,215 sales, capturing a 31.2% market share—meaning one in every three vehicles sold was a Tesla. With 28,606 units sold so far in 2025, Tesla has already surpassed its own annual record of 26,641 vehicles set in 2023. With December sales included, Tesla is expected to exceed 30,000 units.
Volkswagen, Volvo, and BMW also reported strong growth in November, trailing Tesla in brand rankings. Chinese manufacturers BYD, MG, and XPeng, while not topping the charts, have shown consistent progress throughout 2025.
Looking at individual models, the Tesla Model Y retains its top position, with 3,648 units sold in November. The Model 3 follows closely with 2,562 units. Other notable electric vehicles include Volvo EX40 (916 units), Volkswagen ID.4 (892 units), Volkswagen ID.7 (780 units), and Volvo EX30 (774 units).
Norway’s exceptional electric vehicle performance underscores the country’s commitment to sustainable transportation, setting a benchmark for other European nations.
