Samsung Galaxy S26 FE Arrives as a More Affordable Flagship Alternative
Samsung has expanded its Fan Edition lineup with the new Galaxy S26 FE, a smartphone designed to bring many flagship-level features to a more accessible price point. Positioned between the mid-range and premium segments, the device closely resembles the Galaxy S26+ in terms of size and overall design while making several compromises under the hood to keep the price lower.
Starting at $700, the Galaxy S26 FE features a 6.7-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It matches the larger Galaxy S26+ in screen size, although its peak brightness reaches 1,900 nits, compared with 2,600 nits on its more expensive sibling.
Triple camera system and Exynos 2500 processor
The Galaxy S26 FE comes equipped with a triple-camera setup on the back. The system includes a 12MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera and an 8MP telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom.
Instead of using the more powerful Snapdragon chips found in other members of the Galaxy S26 family, Samsung has equipped the FE model with its own Exynos 2500 processor. The phone is paired with 8GB of RAM and is available with either 128GB or 256GB of storage.
The 8GB memory configuration may be one of the device's weaker points, particularly since the rest of the Galaxy S26 lineup comes with 12GB of RAM. However, Samsung has at least maintained the same memory capacity as the previous generation. The $50 price increase over the Galaxy S25 FE is reportedly linked to rising global RAM costs.
Large battery and seven years of software support
Samsung has equipped the Galaxy S26 FE with a 4,900mAh battery. The phone supports 45W wired charging as well as 15W wireless charging. It also comes with seven years of operating system and security updates, providing long-term software support similar to Samsung's flagship devices.
In terms of design, the Galaxy S26 FE retains the visual language of the wider S26 family. It features an aluminum frame, a streamlined body and a relatively small camera bump, giving it an appearance similar to more expensive models. The main difference appears to be the rear panel, which is believed to use polycarbonate rather than glass. Still, the distinction is difficult to notice without closely examining the device.
Flagship software and AI features
Samsung has also brought many of the software features introduced with the main Galaxy S26 lineup to the FE model. These include Super Steady Video with horizontal lock, the my FanCam tool that can automatically track and center subjects in previously recorded videos, AI-powered Photo Assist and Now Nudge.
Now Nudge can surface relevant information from notifications and selected third-party applications, further strengthening the Galaxy S26 FE's flagship-like software experience. As a result, the device aims to offer more than just premium hardware at a lower price.
Is the Galaxy S26 FE a worthwhile alternative to the S26+?
Early hands-on impressions suggest that the Galaxy S26 FE feels remarkably similar to its more expensive siblings in everyday use. The difference in display brightness is not especially noticeable indoors, while overall performance appears smooth and responsive.
However, the Exynos 2500 processor still raises questions about sustained gaming performance compared with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chips used in other Galaxy S26 models.
Perhaps the biggest challenge for the S26 FE is its price positioning. While a new Galaxy S26+ starts at around $900, used models can already be found for approximately $700. This reduces some of the FE model's value advantage. Nevertheless, for buyers who prefer a brand-new device with a large display, current hardware and long-term software support, the Galaxy S26 FE could remain an attractive choice.
The Samsung Galaxy S26 FE will be available from September 3 in three color options: Pistachio, Blueberry and Graphite.
