Massive Cloudflare outage disrupts global internet access

Starting around midday, millions of users across the world experienced major disruptions while trying to access popular websites and online services. Early indications suggest that a large-scale technical malfunction within Cloudflare’s global network is at the core of the outage. The issue closely resembles the recent AWS infrastructure problem that caused widespread service failures last month. Searches such as “Is Twitter down?” and “Is ChatGPT down?” quickly began trending as users attempted to understand the situation.

Cloudflare Confirms the Severity of the Outage

Cloudflare, one of the world’s leading internet infrastructure and security providers, confirmed the gravity of the problem shortly after reports began to spread. Around 11:48 GMT, the company announced that its Global Network was experiencing significant issues and that the disruption could be affecting multiple customers worldwide. Engineering teams launched an immediate investigation to determine both the root cause and the scope of the impact.

The company issued a detailed statement:
“Cloudflare is aware of and investigating an issue impacting many customers. Widespread 500 errors are occurring, and both Cloudflare Dashboard and API are experiencing outages. We are working to understand the full scope of the problem and to resolve it. More updates will follow shortly.”

Support Channels Also Affected

The outage extended beyond customer-facing services and affected Cloudflare’s internal operational tools as well. The company confirmed that its support portal was malfunctioning, preventing customers from viewing or responding to support tickets. However, Cloudflare emphasized that outgoing support responses were not impacted.

Business and Enterprise customers can still access live chat through the Cloudflare Dashboard, while Enterprise users may continue to reach the emergency phone hotline.

Twitter, ChatGPT and Other Major Platforms Impacted

The disruption reverberated across numerous platforms relying on Cloudflare infrastructure. X (formerly Twitter), ChatGPT, and dozens of popular services displayed access issues. Even DownDetector, the platform that typically monitors global outages, experienced initial failures due to the same incident.

As Cloudflare continues its technical investigation, millions of users worldwide are closely monitoring the gradual restoration of internet connectivity.
