The 2025 Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix delivered high drama and excitement at Zandvoort. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri drove a flawless race to secure a memorable victory in the 72-lap showdown.
At the start, Piastri held onto his lead from pole, while Max Verstappen, starting on soft tires, overtook Lando Norris to claim second. Further back, Alex Albon impressed by climbing from 15th to 10th within the opening laps. Early incidents included a collision between Lance Stroll and Gabriel Bortoleto, which was noted by the stewards.
On lap nine, Norris fought back, overtaking Verstappen to reclaim second place. Meanwhile, Piastri reported raindrops on his visor. As the weather threatened, several drivers opted for pit stops. The race took a dramatic turn when Lewis Hamilton crashed into the barriers, triggering a safety car and a wave of pit strategies.
After the restart, Piastri defended his lead against Norris. Contact between Carlos Sainz and Liam Lawson earned Sainz a 10-second penalty. Later, Charles Leclerc engaged in a fierce wheel-to-wheel battle with George Russell, eventually prevailing—only to crash out following contact with Kimi Antonelli, who was subsequently penalized.
In the closing stages, McLaren’s hopes for a double podium were dashed when Norris retired due to a mechanical issue.
At the checkered flag, Oscar Piastri took the win, followed by home hero Max Verstappen in second. The surprise of the day was Isack Hadjar, who clinched third for Red Bull. The top five was rounded out by George Russell and Alex Albon.
