Apple plans affordable MacBook powered by iPhone chip

Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch a new, more budget-friendly MacBook model powered by the A18 Pro chip, the same processor used in the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro lineup. According to reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this move signals a shift in Apple’s approach to offering a broader range of computing options at different price points.

The new MacBook is expected to feature a 13-inch display, similar to the current MacBook Air, and will be available in silver, blue, pink, and yellow color options. With this design strategy, Apple aims to appeal to a more diverse consumer base not just with pricing, but with a vibrant aesthetic.

From a performance perspective, the A18 Pro chip reportedly scores around 3500 points in single-core tests on Geekbench, slightly below the newer M4 chip. However, its multi-core score of 8780 is still competitive—comparable to Apple’s earlier M1 chip from 2020, which many users still rely on today.

Mass production of the new MacBook is expected to begin in late 2025 or early 2026. Targeted primarily at students and everyday users, this new device could mark a major expansion in Apple’s product strategy, offering macOS at a more accessible price point through the use of efficient smartphone silicon.
