F1 2025 Austrian GP: Norris wins, Piastri shines, Verstappen out early

The 2025 Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring was filled with drama from the very beginning. Carlos Sainz was unable to start the formation lap, leading to an immediate delay. Although he eventually got moving, a brake fire forced Williams to retire the car even before lights out.

After a roughly 10-minute delay, the race got underway. Lando Norris held his pole position, while Oscar Piastri made a brilliant start to climb into second. Behind them, chaos unfolded as Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli made contact, bringing out the safety car early.

Once racing resumed, both McLaren drivers fought for the lead while George Russell challenged his former teammate Lewis Hamilton for fourth. Norris later pitted around lap 20, giving the lead to Piastri, and returned to the track in fourth place behind Hamilton.

The race wasn't without more contact. Yuki Tsunoda had separate incidents with Lance Stroll and later Franco Colapinto, the latter resulting in a 10-second penalty. Meanwhile, a minor touch between Piastri and Colapinto during lapping was noted by race stewards.

In the final phase, positions among the top five remained unchanged. Lando Norris secured a well-earned victory, followed by teammate Oscar Piastri, marking a strong result for McLaren. Charles Leclerc rounded out the podium, with Hamilton and Russell close behind.
