Chinese tech giant Baidu has developed a groundbreaking artificial intelligence system aimed at conveying animals' emotions to humans in a more understandable manner. In December 2024, the company filed a patent application with the China National Intellectual Property Administration, and the details of the innovation were recently made public.
This advanced system attempts to interpret animals’ emotional states by analyzing their sounds, behaviors, and physiological signals. The collected data is processed using machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing techniques to translate it into human language. This could allow people to understand what their pets are feeling in real time.
Although still in the development phase, the technology has already generated significant buzz on Chinese social media. While many pet owners are enthusiastic about the possibility of communicating better with their animals, some remain skeptical about the system’s practical applications.
The timeline for commercialization remains uncertain, as the patent approval process can take anywhere from one to three years or more, depending on complexity. Nevertheless, the project holds promising potential to deepen the emotional bond between humans and animals through the power of artificial intelligence.
