Casio Refreshes the Iconic F-91W with New Recycled-Fabric Bands
Casio has given its long-running F-91W digital watch series a small but notable update. The company has introduced the new F-91WF lineup in the United States, retaining the watch's instantly recognizable design while replacing the traditional strap with one made from recycled materials.
The new series is now available through Casio's website for $45.95. It consists of three models — the F-91WF-1A, F-91WF-2A and F-91WF-3A — with the main differences between them coming down to their color accents. Internally, however, the watches remain very close to the familiar F-91W formula.
The classic design remains intact
The biggest change to the F-91WF is found on the wrist rather than inside the watch.
Instead of the traditional resin strap commonly used on basic Casio watches, the new model features a fabric band woven from recycled PET fibers.
Casio says the material has been designed to resist scratches and stains. Compared with a conventional plastic strap, the fabric construction may also provide greater flexibility and breathability, potentially making it more comfortable during everyday use, particularly in warmer conditions.
The adjustable band fits wrists measuring between 145 and 215 millimeters.
Beyond the strap, the watch retains the familiar F-91W appearance. Measuring 38.2 x 35.2 x 8.5 mm and weighing just 21 grams, it remains an extremely compact timepiece. The case, bezel and crystal covering the digital display continue to use resin.
The watch is water-resistant enough to handle everyday splashes and rain, but it is not designed for swimming or underwater use.
Up to seven years of battery life
One of the F-91WF's biggest strengths remains its impressive battery longevity. The watch runs on a single CR2016 battery, with Casio estimating approximately seven years of battery life under normal conditions.
Its feature set is intentionally simple. Users can choose between 12- and 24-hour time formats, while the display also shows the day and date. A green LED backlight makes it possible to read the time in darker environments.
The watch also includes a 1/100-second stopwatch capable of measuring elapsed time and split times, as well as recording first- and second-place results.
Additional features include a daily alarm, an automatic calendar and an optional hourly time signal.
The timekeeping module is rated for an accuracy of approximately ±30 seconds per month. While that may seem modest compared with modern smartwatches, it fits the F-91W's philosophy of simplicity, low power consumption and long-term usability.
Why does the F-91W remain so popular?
The Casio F-91W has survived for decades not because of cutting-edge technology, but because of its simplicity and practicality. Its compact dimensions, extremely low weight, long battery life and straightforward controls have helped it maintain a unique position among digital watches.
The F-91WF does not attempt to reinvent that formula. Instead, Casio has introduced a modest material upgrade while preserving the design and functionality that made the original so recognizable.
The company has also been continuing its interest in retro-inspired watches, recently introducing a limited-edition matcha-green model as well as new AQ-240E watches with navy and glossy black styling.
With the F-91WF, Casio is essentially updating a classic without changing what made it successful in the first place. The result is a familiar digital watch with a more contemporary approach to its strap materials.
