Kit Harington Joins the Harry Potter Series as Gilderoy Lockhart
Kit Harington, best known for his role as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, is heading to the wizarding world to take on one of Harry Potter’s most flamboyant characters.
A major new name has joined the cast of HBO Max’s highly anticipated Harry Potter television series. Kit Harington, 39, will reportedly portray Gilderoy Lockhart, the memorable character introduced in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
The announcement was shared through the franchise’s official Instagram account, revealing that a notable change would take place as Hogwarts begins its second year. Harington is set to take over the role of Lockhart, one of the most distinctive and entertaining characters in the wizarding world.
From Jon Snow to Gilderoy Lockhart
Kit Harington became internationally famous for playing Jon Snow throughout all eight seasons of Game of Thrones. His portrayal of the brooding and honorable character turned him into one of television’s most recognizable stars.
Since then, Harington has continued to expand his career with a variety of projects, including the BBC and HBO production Industry. However, joining the Harry Potter universe is expected to be one of the most significant new chapters of his career.
Gilderoy Lockhart is introduced as Hogwarts’ new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher during Harry Potter’s second year at the school. Known for his enormous ego, dramatic personality and obsession with fame, Lockhart is one of the franchise’s most colorful characters.
