Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra Could Bring a Major Design Change
Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S27 series, expected to launch in 2027, is already attracting attention with possible changes to the design of its flagship models. Newly leaked CAD renders suggest that the company could introduce a significant redesign for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, particularly around its rear camera system.
According to the leaks, Samsung may move away from the vertical arrangement of individually exposed camera lenses that it has used for years and adopt a wider, more integrated camera platform.
The design has already drawn comparisons with the camera island found on Apple’s recent iPhone Pro models.
Galaxy S27 Ultra and S27 Pro Could Have Different Sizes
Leaker Sonny Dickson recently shared CAD renders showing two devices in different sizes. At first, both were believed to represent different versions of the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
The different positions of the physical side buttons also fueled speculation that Samsung might introduce two differently sized Ultra models.
However, Ice Universe later claimed that the smaller device is not another Ultra variant but rather the Galaxy S27 Pro.
This suggests that the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra could have different dimensions while sharing a broadly similar camera design.
Samsung May Redesign the Camera System
Samsung’s Ultra smartphones have traditionally used a distinctive rear camera layout in which individual lenses are placed separately across the back panel. The leaked CAD images suggest that this approach could finally change.
The cameras may instead be grouped together within a wider platform, giving the rear panel a more unified appearance.
However, the resemblance to the camera island of the iPhone 17 Pro has already sparked criticism among some users, with questions being raised about whether Samsung is moving away from its own design identity.
It is also important to remember that CAD renders may represent early-stage development designs rather than the final retail product.
The 3x Telephoto Camera Could Be Removed
One of the more interesting rumors concerns the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s camera hardware.
Samsung is reportedly considering removing the 10-megapixel 3x telephoto camera currently used on the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
While eliminating a dedicated camera may initially sound like a downgrade, it could give Samsung additional internal space.
That room could potentially be used for a larger battery or for components required by the Qi2 wireless charging system, including magnetic elements.
In other words, fewer physical cameras could allow Samsung to make better use of the limited internal space without necessarily compromising the overall imaging experience.
A New 200MP Main Sensor Could Arrive
The main camera could also receive a major upgrade. Samsung is reportedly preparing to replace the long-running ISOCELL HP2 sensor with a newer solution.
Previous reports have suggested that the Galaxy S27 Ultra could feature Samsung’s 200MP ISOCELL HPC sensor.
Even more interestingly, the sensor could potentially contribute to zoom levels between 3x and 5x, allowing Samsung to rely more heavily on advanced sensor and computational photography techniques.
If these reports prove accurate, Samsung could attempt to deliver high-quality zoom photography while reducing the number of dedicated camera components.
Final Design Is Still Uncertain
None of the current Galaxy S27 Ultra or Galaxy S27 Pro details have been officially confirmed by Samsung. The leaked CAD renders may also represent prototypes or early development versions rather than the final designs.
As a result, the camera layout, sensors, dimensions and other hardware details could still change before launch.
Nevertheless, if the leaks are accurate, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could represent a significant shift for Samsung—not only in camera hardware, but also in the visual identity of its flagship smartphone lineup.
