Jürgen Klopp Appointed as Germany Head Coach Through the 2030 World Cup
The German Football Association (DFB) has officially announced the appointment of Jürgen Klopp as the new head coach of the Germany national team.
The former Liverpool manager has signed a contract that will keep him in charge through the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
After building a legendary coaching career at club level, Klopp now faces the challenge of restoring Germany to the top of international football.
A new era begins for Germany
According to the DFB, Klopp will officially begin his role on August 15, with his contract running until the conclusion of the 2030 World Cup.
His appointment follows the resignation of Julian Nagelsmann after Germany's World Cup elimination. Klopp had previously expressed his willingness to take charge of the national team if the opportunity arose.
"The greatest honor of my career"
Speaking at his introductory press conference in Frankfurt, Klopp described becoming Germany's head coach as one of the greatest honors of his professional life.
He said he intends to dedicate all of his energy and commitment to the role, describing it as the pinnacle of his coaching career.
Klopp also emphasized that leading his country's national team represents far more than just another managerial position.
A clear message to the media
During his first appearance before the press, Klopp also addressed the media directly, asking for respect toward his family's privacy.
He warned that if his family were subjected to inappropriate treatment or excessive intrusion, he would have no hesitation in stepping away from the position.
Klopp acknowledged that previous Germany coaches, including Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel, had faced heavy criticism, but said he accepted the challenge because of his passion for the national team.
Germany aims to return to the top
Since winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Germany has struggled to replicate its previous success on the international stage.
The team was eliminated by Paraguay on penalties in the Round of 32 at this summer's World Cup, marking another disappointing tournament after several underwhelming performances in recent major competitions.
Since reaching the UEFA Euro 2016 semifinals, Germany has managed only one knockout-stage victory across multiple World Cups and European Championships, highlighting the need for a fresh start.
From Liverpool legend to national team leader
Klopp first made his mark with Mainz before transforming Borussia Dortmund into one of Europe's elite clubs.
He later became one of Liverpool's most successful managers, guiding the English side to its first Premier League title in 30 years and winning the club's sixth UEFA Champions League trophy before leaving in 2024.
Now, Klopp begins perhaps his biggest challenge yet: rebuilding Germany into a genuine contender for international titles and leading the four-time world champions back to football's biggest stage at the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
