Googlebook Officially Unveiled: ChromeOS and Android Unite Under One Platform

Google has officially announced one of its biggest ecosystem transformations yet by introducing “Googlebooks,” a new laptop category that merges ChromeOS and Android into a single unified platform.

Fifteen years after the launch of Chromebooks, Google is now preparing to transition toward a more AI-driven and deeply integrated computing experience powered by Android.

The new operating system is reportedly based on the long-rumored “Aluminium OS” project and aims to create seamless interaction between phones, tablets, and laptops.

Major Manufacturers Join the Initiative

Instead of manufacturing the devices itself, Google will collaborate with companies such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.

One surprising detail was the absence of Samsung from the initial partner lineup.

Google also confirmed that the devices will feature premium materials, multiple form factors, and a new illuminated lid design called “Glowbar.”

Gemini AI Takes Center Stage

At the core of the Googlebooks experience is Gemini AI integration.

A new feature called “Magic Pointer” transforms the cursor into an intelligent assistant capable of contextual suggestions and interactive tasks.

For example, users can visualize how furniture or lighting would look in a room photo or instantly create calendar events from email content.

A Tighter Connection Between Phone and Laptop

Googlebooks will also provide significantly deeper Android integration. Thanks to the “Cast My Apps” feature, users will be able to open Android 17 apps from their smartphones directly on their laptops with a single click.

The experience is similar to Apple’s iPhone Mirroring feature available on Mac devices.

Another feature, “Quick Access,” allows users to browse, search, and transfer files between their smartphone and laptop seamlessly.

AI-Generated Widgets

Google additionally introduced “Create My Widget,” enabling users to describe widgets in natural language while Gemini automatically builds them.

While Google confirmed that existing Chromebook devices will continue receiving support for up to 10 years, the company has not clarified whether the Chromebook brand itself will continue in the long term.

The first Googlebooks devices are expected to launch later this year.
