Verstappen Considers Retirement From F1: “I’m Not Enjoying It Anymore”

Max Verstappen has sparked major discussions about his future in Formula 1 after openly admitting that he is no longer enjoying racing as much as before. The four-time world champion started the Formula 1 Japonya Grand Prix from 11th and finished 8th, but it was his post-race comments that drew the most attention.

Verstappen has been increasingly critical of the current regulations, particularly the balance between internal combustion engines and electric power. He previously described the new generation of cars as a “boosted version of Formula E,” highlighting his dissatisfaction with the direction of the sport.

One notable moment during the race came when Pierre Gasly overtook him on the main straight, prompting Verstappen to wave—a gesture widely interpreted as a reflection of his current mindset.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live after the race, Verstappen did not rule out the possibility of retiring at the end of the season. He emphasized the demanding nature of the calendar and the importance of personal life, suggesting that at some point, drivers must question whether the sacrifices are still worth it.

Despite being under contract with Red Bull Racing until 2028, reports indicate that he is seriously considering early retirement. Dutch media sources suggest that the coming weeks could be decisive in shaping his future.

Verstappen acknowledged that achieving his childhood dream has been fulfilling, but his motivation has evolved over time. While he still values his team and enjoys working with them, he admitted that the driving experience itself no longer brings the same excitement.

Looking ahead, a potential move to other forms of motorsport appears likely. Verstappen has shown strong interest in GT3 racing and is set to participate in the Nürburgring 24 Hours for the first time. Beyond driving, he is also keen on building and managing his own racing team in the future.

Max Verstappen made it clear that stepping away from Formula 1 would not mean stepping away from racing entirely. While his future remains uncertain, his passion for motorsport in different forms continues to shape his next chapter.
