Apple’s Foldable iPhone Could Introduce an iPad-Style Interface
New reports continue to reveal additional details about Apple’s long-rumored foldable smartphone. The device, widely referred to as the iPhone Fold, is expected to launch later this year and may introduce a significantly different software experience compared to traditional iPhones.
According to technology journalist Mark Gurman, the device’s large inner display will support a user interface that resembles the layout found on Apple’s tablets.
Large Inner Display with a 4:3 Aspect Ratio
The foldable iPhone is rumored to feature a wide inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio. When unfolded, the screen size is expected to be roughly comparable to the iPad mini.
This larger display could allow users to:
- Run two apps side by side
- View more content simultaneously
- Experience a tablet-like interface on a smartphone device
Multitasking Inspired by iPadOS
The software experience on the foldable device is expected to incorporate features inspired by iPadOS.
These improvements may include:
- Side-by-side applications
- iPad-style sidebars
- Optimized layouts for larger screens
However, the device will not fully replicate the multitasking capabilities found on Apple’s tablets.
Still Powered by iOS
Despite the larger display and tablet-inspired interface, the iPhone Fold will still run iOS rather than iPadOS.
As a result, the device will not support full windowed multitasking or native iPad applications. Instead, Apple is expected to implement a simplified multitasking system better suited for a foldable smartphone.
New Display Technology to Reduce Crease
Apple is also reportedly developing a new display technology designed to significantly reduce the visible crease that often appears on foldable screens.
This technology is expected to improve both the visual experience and the durability of the device.
Cameras and Hardware Features
The upcoming iPhone Fold may include several notable hardware elements:
- A hole-punch camera on the cover display
- A hole-punch camera on the inner display
- A dual rear camera system
- A Touch ID sensor integrated into the power button
This suggests Apple could adopt a more compact biometric solution instead of relying solely on Face ID.
Could Be Branded as iPhone Ultra
While the official name has not yet been confirmed, some rumors suggest that Apple might brand its first foldable device as the iPhone Ultra.
If accurate, the company may be positioning the device as a premium flagship designed to introduce a new category within the iPhone lineup.
