Samsung Galaxy Wide Fold Gears Up to Challenge the iPhone Fold
Samsung, a long-standing pioneer in foldable smartphones, is preparing a bold response to Apple’s highly anticipated iPhone Fold. The South Korean tech giant has reportedly begun preparations for mass production of its new passport-style foldable device, the Galaxy Wide Fold, with a planned launch in the second half of 2026.
Recent reports suggest that Samsung has finalized key production plans with its supply chain partners, signaling that the launch timeline is becoming increasingly clear. The Galaxy Wide Fold is positioned as a strategic model designed to elevate Samsung’s dominance in the foldable phone market.
Clear Production Goals
According to industry insiders, Samsung is targeting an initial production run of approximately one million units for the Galaxy Wide Fold. This figure reflects strong confidence in the device’s market potential. Expected to feature a book-style folding mechanism similar to the Galaxy Z Fold lineup, the device is said to offer a 7.6-inch inner display alongside a 5.4-inch cover screen.
The rumored 4:3 aspect ratio stands out as a key design choice, promising a more balanced, tablet-like viewing experience compared to existing Galaxy Z Fold models.
A Carefully Timed Launch
The launch timing of the Galaxy Wide Fold appears equally strategic. Reports indicate that the device could be unveiled during Samsung’s second Galaxy Unpacked event, typically held in July. If so, it may debut alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Such a reveal would allow Samsung to showcase an expanded foldable portfolio in a single event, appealing to a wide range of users—from early adopters to premium smartphone enthusiasts.
Competition with Apple Intensifies
On Apple’s side, expectations for the iPhone Fold are ambitious. Analysts predict that Apple’s first foldable iPhone could reach 10 million units in sales. Considering that Samsung currently sells around 5 million foldable phones annually, the Galaxy Wide Fold appears designed to reshape this competitive balance.
More than just a new product, the Galaxy Wide Fold represents Samsung’s determination to maintain and strengthen its leadership in the rapidly evolving foldable smartphone market.
