Apple stays committed to thinness: The iPhone Air series lives on

Apple has always pushed the boundaries of design and innovation, and its ultra-thin iPhone Air was no exception. Yet, recent reports suggested that global demand for the model has been underwhelming — except in China. There, the device sparked strong interest thanks to its exclusive eSIM-only connectivity, a technology that only recently became available in the country.

Despite mixed international reactions, Apple appears satisfied with the overall performance of the iPhone Air. A new report from JP Morgan confirms that the company plans to continue the series, with iPhone Air 2 slated for 2026 and iPhone Air 3 expected in 2027.

Analyst Max Weinbach shared the findings on X, revealing that both Air 2 and Air 3 were explicitly listed in JP Morgan’s roadmap — effectively debunking rumors that Apple was canceling the line.

This aligns with a recent report from TD Cowen, which claims that Apple has not altered its production targets. The firm estimates that 3 million units will be produced in the third quarter of 2025, followed by 7 million units in the final quarter.

While some sources, such as KeyBanc Capital and Nikkei Asia, claimed weak consumer interest and reduced production capacity, these assumptions have now been contradicted. TD Cowen and JP Morgan’s insights indicate that Apple remains committed to the iPhone Air, seeing it as an essential part of its product ecosystem.

Unless a major drop in demand occurs, both iPhone Air 2 and Air 3 are expected to launch as scheduled. Apple, once again, is betting on design and differentiation — and history shows that the company often turns niche experiments into mainstream success.
