Tesla Model Y Standard leaks: The cheapest version yet

After Tesla officially launched the new Model Y Performance in the US — the most expensive variant in the lineup — a new leak has emerged regarding the upcoming Model Y Standard, which is set to be the cheapest option available.

The leak reportedly originates from code spotted on Tesla’s own website, confirming both the long-rumored name and key specifications of the budget-friendly Model Y.

According to the leak, the Model Y Standard will start at $39,990 in the US. In order to keep costs low, several design and feature changes have been made. The front has been redesigned without the “light bar,” a camera has been added to the front bumper, and the glass roof has been replaced by a standard roof. Other highlights include new 18-inch “Aperture” wheels, a simpler interior, a manually adjustable steering wheel, textile trim, and a 15.4-inch central touchscreen (without a secondary rear display). The rear air vents are manually adjustable, the HEPA filter is missing, and cargo space has been reduced to 2,124 liters — 28 liters less than other Model Y variants.

Thanks to these adjustments, the Model Y Standard will be priced $5,000 lower than the current cheapest option, the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive model, which starts at $44,990. Whether this stripped-down package is worth the discount will ultimately be up to buyers — assuming, of course, that the leak is accurate.
