PlayStation 6 leak: Sony’s next console reportedly coming in 2027

Sony’s highly anticipated PlayStation 6 may be closer than expected. According to industry insider Kepler, known for credible AMD hardware leaks, the next-generation console is scheduled for release in 2027, barring any unexpected production delays.

This timeline would give the PlayStation 5 a seven-year lifecycle, similar to the generational gap between the PS4 and PS5. Historically, Sony has maintained a consistent release rhythm — with the PS4 Pro arriving three years after the PS4, and the PS5 following four years later.

Rumors suggest that the PS6 will feature between 34 and 40 TFLOPS of computational power, delivering 6 to 12 times higher ray tracing performance than its predecessor. Such a leap could redefine visual fidelity, lighting, and realism in future PlayStation titles.

Sony’s collaboration with AMD, known as Project Amethyst, introduces three groundbreaking technologies: Radiance Cores, Neural Arrays, and Universal Compression. Radiance Cores are specialized hardware units designed to boost ray tracing efficiency, while Neural Arrays integrate AI-powered GPU accelerators to improve gameplay dynamics. Universal Compression, on the other hand, will reduce data size without quality loss, resulting in faster load times and smoother performance.

Sony’s lead system architect Mark Cerny hinted that these advancements could appear “in the next few years,” further fueling speculation that PlayStation 6 is on track for a 2027 release.
