Pluribus: Vince Gilligan’s new psychological odyssey

Vince Gilligan, the mastermind behind Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, returns with a bold and thought-provoking new series — Pluribus. Produced under Apple TV+, the show marks a distinct shift from the moral complexity and crime-ridden landscapes of his earlier works.

Pluribus introduces us to Carol Sturka, a famous author who travels to Albuquerque, New Mexico for her book tour. What begins as a routine trip quickly spirals into chaos when a strange virus spreads across the city. This mysterious infection turns everyone into unnaturally cheerful, content individuals — everyone except Carol.

Apple describes the show as “a genre-blending story where the world’s unhappiest person must save humanity from happiness itself.” It’s an ironic and deeply human premise that feels quintessentially Gilligan — an exploration of morality, emotion, and what it truly means to be human.

The series stars Rhea Seehorn, known for her outstanding performance in Better Call Saul, alongside Karolina Wydra, Carlos-Manuel Vesga, Miriam Shor, and Samba Schutte. With its mysterious tone, sharp writing, and psychological depth, Pluribus looks poised to become one of the most intriguing television events of the year.
