McLaren has officially confirmed that no further upgrades will be introduced to the MCL39 during the remainder of the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Despite finishing second and fifth in Austin, a sprint race double DNF and Max Verstappen’s return to form have complicated the team’s title challenge.
Team Principal Andrea Stella acknowledged that the car’s potential remains strong but said the focus is now on maximizing its current capabilities. “We’ll complete the season with this car,” Stella stated. “Our performance was competitive, but strategy and track position limited our chances against Max.”
The sprint incident between Norris and Piastri cost the team valuable setup data, leaving them slightly behind in preparation. Still, McLaren remains optimistic with five races left, banking on consistency and precision from their drivers to stay in the title fight.
