Apple may have used the iPhone Air as a prototype for a foldable iPhone

Rumors about Apple’s long-awaited foldable iPhone are once again making waves in the tech world. According to fresh reports, the company may have used the iPhone Air as a testing ground for its first foldable device.

While the latest iPhones are just hitting the shelves, attention has already shifted to Apple’s next big step. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests that the upcoming foldable iPhone will resemble two iPhone Airs placed side by side. The device is said to feature an ultra-thin design with a titanium frame to ensure durability.

Industry experts argue that the iPhone Air was more than just a regular product — it served as an “experimental platform” for Apple to refine materials and design principles before bringing them into the foldable model, which is rumored to be called the iPhone Fold.

When it comes to pricing, the expectations are clear: the foldable iPhone will target the premium segment, with a starting price of at least $2000. Earlier leaks even pointed to a range between $2100 and $2300, which positions the device as a luxury product for high-end users.

As for its release date, Apple is expected to unveil the device alongside the iPhone 18 lineup in fall 2026. However, as is common with first-generation products, the launch could be delayed into October or November.

If true, Apple’s entry into the foldable market would not only expand its product ecosystem but also bring it into direct competition with Samsung and other established players in the segment.
