The wizarding world is ready to enchant fans once again—this time in series format. HBO has officially begun production on its highly anticipated Harry Potter television adaptation. Along with the exciting news, the network released the first image from the set, showcasing Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter in full Hogwarts attire.
While filming has commenced, the series won't grace our screens until 2027. In an accompanying announcement, HBO confirmed that the premiere is scheduled for that year, giving fans time to build anticipation for this long-awaited project.
Like the original film series, the show will adapt J.K. Rowling’s beloved novels, but with a different approach. Each season will cover one book, allowing for a deeper, more detailed exploration of the storylines and characters—particularly the moments that didn’t make it into the movies.
The cast brings a fresh yet exciting lineup: Dominic McLaughlin stars as Harry Potter, joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Supporting them are acclaimed actors such as John Lithgow (Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (Professor McGonagall), Nick Frost (Hagrid), Paapa Essiedu (Snape), Paul Whitehouse (Filch), and Luke Thallon (Quirrell).
The series is being developed by Francesca Gardiner, known for her work on Succession and His Dark Materials, with Mark Mylod directing. With such a seasoned creative team behind the scenes, the new Harry Potter series promises to blend faithfulness to the source material with a fresh visual and narrative style.
