Pixar releases first trailer for Hoppers; a sci-fi adventure with a heart

Though Pixar has faced ups and downs in recent years, the studio remains a staple in the world of animated storytelling. With classics like Inside Out, Coco, and Up, Pixar is now preparing to launch its next big project: Hoppers. The newly released trailer gives audiences a first glimpse into the studio’s latest venture, which blends science fiction and environmental themes. The film is set to premiere on March 6, 2026.

Hoppers takes place in a near-future world where scientists have developed the technology to transfer human consciousness into mechanical bodies. At the center of the story is Mabel Tanaka, a curious and passionate young scientist who adores the animal kingdom. Eager to better understand wildlife, she uploads her consciousness into a robotic beaver. Through this transformation, she gains a unique opportunity to explore the natural world from within—until she discovers a massive construction company threatening the animals’ habitat.

The film is both written and directed by Daniel Chong, best known for the animated series We Were Bears. With Hoppers, Chong aims to balance sci-fi intensity with comedic warmth, crafting a narrative that delivers an environmental message alongside entertainment. The story’s underlying theme is clear: interference in nature comes with consequences.

With Hoppers, Pixar revisits one of its signature questions—what does it mean to be human?—but this time, from an animal’s perspective. Visually vibrant and thematically rich, Hoppers promises to engage viewers of all ages with both fun and food for thought.
