Kia has officially introduced its new fully electric SUV, the EV5, built on Hyundai Motor Group’s advanced Electric Global Modular Platform (E‑GMP). Positioned as an electric counterpart to the Sportage, the EV5 distinguishes itself with innovative battery options, sleek styling, and a wealth of technology, offering a compelling mid‑size electric SUV choice.
The EV5 comes with two battery options—60.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh—delivering up to 530 km of WLTP range in the base configuration. The GT‑Line version, riding on 19‑inch wheels and featuring enhanced equipment, offers 505 km range due to added weight. With 150 kW DC fast charging, the battery goes from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes, while 11 kW AC charging accommodates home and public setups.
Externally, the EV5 embodies Kia’s “Opposites United” philosophy, showcasing a wide front, 3D LED daytime running lights, muscular bumpers, and vertically oriented rear lamps. Measuring 4,600 mm long with a 2,750 mm wheelbase, it exudes strong SUV proportions. The interior features a panoramic digital cockpit with 12.3‑inch instrument and 12.3‑inch infotainment screens, alongside fingerprint recognition, Digital Key 2.0, Kia AI Assistant, and a Harman Kardon sound system.
The single‑motor, front‑wheel‑drive EV5 boasts 160 kW (215 hp) and 295 Nm of torque. Its i‑Pedal 3.0 regenerative braking system, V2L power output, and forthcoming V2G capability enhance versatility. Safety is bolstered by seven airbags and advanced driver aids such as Highway Driving Assist 2, Blind‑Spot Collision Avoidance, and more.
Launched in China in October 2023, export models are produced in South Korea to avoid high local EV taxes. Chinese market versions use LFP batteries, whereas global models employ NMC cells. Global deliveries kick off in the second half of 2025, with pricing expected around €40,000.
