Jannik Sinner makes history as the first Italian to win Wimbledon

History was made on Sunday when 23-year-old Jannik Sinner overcame a first-set deficit to defeat defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final.

The Italian triumphed 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, securing not only the title but a place in tennis history.

Sinner has now become the first Italian ever—male or female—to win Wimbledon. While Matteo Berrettini reached the men’s final in 2021 and Jasmine Paolini did the same in the women’s draw in 2024, both fell just short. Sinner, however, broke the barrier and brought the prestigious trophy to Italy for the first time.

With this victory, Sinner now holds three of the four Grand Slam titles—Australian Open, US Open, and Wimbledon—leaving only Roland Garros missing from his collection. Considering his prowess on all surfaces, many believe it’s only a matter of time before he completes the Career Grand Slam.

Sinner's success signals a new era not only for Italian tennis but for the sport globally, as the young star continues his steady rise toward dominance on the world stage.
