Galaxy Z Fold 7 stuns with slim design but hinge concerns begin to surface

Samsung’s latest foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, has drawn praise for its incredibly slim 8.9mm profile and a near-invisible crease. However, just days after hitting shelves in the US, a few demo units are raising eyebrows due to hinge concerns.

Reports from users visiting retail stores claim that some demo devices don’t open fully flat. One video showed a Fold 7 stuck at an angle of around 165 to 170 degrees. While some users confirmed seeing the same issue, others noted their hands-on experiences were perfectly normal.

Samsung has clarified that its Flex Hinge system is engineered to open between 178.5 and 181.5 degrees. If a unit doesn’t meet this standard, it may qualify for a warranty replacement — a point some Reddit users say was confirmed by Samsung’s customer support.

At this stage, the issue seems limited to demo units, which tend to suffer from rough handling. There’s no clear evidence of a broader design flaw or structural weakness. Still, given the Fold7 is a premium device powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 “Elite” chip and a 4,400mAh battery, any potential hardware issue — even in demos — is enough to prompt scrutiny.

If you find your Fold 7 not opening as expected, reaching out to Samsung support could lead to a free replacement under warranty. For now, though, this appears to be an isolated occurrence rather than a systemic issue.
