Google has introduced a major usability improvement to its Chrome browser for Android users. With the latest update, users can now move the address bar from the top of the screen to the bottom, providing a more ergonomic experience—especially for one-handed use on large smartphones.
Interestingly, iOS Chrome users have had access to this feature since 2023. Taking cues from Safari, which implemented a bottom tab design with iOS 15 back in 2021, Google adopts a flexible, user-driven approach. Unlike a mandatory switch, this update gives users the freedom to keep the address bar at the top or move it to the bottom as preferred.
This redesign is particularly helpful as phones become larger and reaching the top of the screen gets more difficult. To activate the new layout, users can simply long-press on the address bar and select the repositioning option. Alternatively, it can be adjusted by navigating to Chrome Settings > Address Bar.
The update is rolling out starting today and will be made available to all users in the coming weeks. Make sure your browser is updated to the latest version to access this feature.
