One of the most prestigious races on the Formula 1 calendar, the Monaco Grand Prix, delivered another weekend of thrilling action in 2025. Held on the iconic streets of Monte Carlo, the 78-lap race ended with McLaren's Lando Norris taking a brilliant victory. Home hero Charles Leclerc finished second, while Oscar Piastri secured third place, delivering a double podium for McLaren.
The race kicked off under tense anticipation as the five red lights went out. Starting from pole position, Norris had a slight lock-up off the line but managed to maintain his lead. While the first corner was navigated cleanly, drama unfolded just before the end of the first lap when Gabriel Bortoleto crashed into the barriers before the tunnel. Thankfully, he was able to continue, and a virtual safety car was deployed.
The mandatory two pit stops made strategy a central element of the race. Early stoppers included Tsunoda, Gasly, Bearman, and Bortoleto. Once the VSC period ended, the race resumed under green flags, only to be disrupted again on lap 9 when Gasly crashed and tried to return to the pits, temporarily closing the pit lane.
Around lap 20, the front runners started making their first pit stops. With Norris heading to the pits, Leclerc took over the lead, followed by Verstappen. Leclerc and Verstappen later pitted on laps 23 and 29 respectively, handing the lead back to Norris.
The race saw a steady phase until lap 38, when Fernando Alonso retired with smoke coming from his car. On lap 50, George Russell overtook Alex Albon by cutting the chicane and received a drive-through penalty. Kimi Antonelli made a similar move but gave the place back and avoided penalty.
In the closing stages, Norris completed his second pit stop, temporarily giving up the lead to Verstappen. However, Verstappen’s very late pit stop on the penultimate lap caused him to fall back to fourth, allowing Norris to reclaim the lead and take a memorable victory.
Thus, Lando Norris won the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix, followed by Charles Leclerc in second and Oscar Piastri in third, completing a fantastic result for McLaren.
