iPhone 17 Air may disappoint with battery capacity despite slim design

Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 Air is generating buzz with its ultra-slim design, but early leaks suggest it may underperform in one key area: battery life. According to recent reports, the phone will feature a remarkably thin 5.5 mm body, weigh just 145 grams, and house a 2800 mAh battery—a capacity considered quite modest by today’s smartphone standards.

The information comes from reputable South Korean leaker yeux1122, who claims the specs are based on a near-final prototype. If accurate, Apple will need to significantly improve its power optimization to ensure a satisfactory user experience. Otherwise, the sleek form factor may not be enough to win over consumers who demand long battery life.

However, there’s still hope. The same source notes that Apple could employ higher energy-density batteries, potentially increasing capacity by 15–20%, which could raise the total to around 3200 mAh. This would offer better endurance without compromising the device's slim profile.

Adding to the optimism, a separate report revealed that Apple’s battery supplier, TDK, is working on silicon-carbon anode batteries and may start shipping them as early as June. These advanced cells promise higher energy efficiency and could be a game-changer for the iPhone 17 Air’s battery dilemma.
