The Xbox Series S is known to be technically less powerful than its counterpart, the Series X. Some game developers have previously expressed concerns about the challenges of optimizing games on this platform due to its limited hardware capabilities. With the upcoming release of GTA 6, doubts about the Xbox Series S’s performance are circulating, yet Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has offered reassuring insights on this matter.
Xbox Series S Performance and Rockstar’s Experience
During Take-Two’s financial earnings meeting, Strauss Zelnick stated that the Xbox Series S’s hardware limitations will not hinder GTA 6’s performance. Highlighting Rockstar’s extensive experience with optimizing games across various platforms, Zelnick emphasized that as long as players choose these platforms, they will continue to support them.
“We support platforms that consumers choose, and while there are technological differences, we find a way to support these consoles,” Zelnick remarked, expressing confidence in delivering a solid gaming experience on all supported platforms.
Xbox Series S: A Challenging Platform
The Xbox Series S presents unique optimization demands for many developers. For instance, the anticipated release S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl operates at around 35 FPS on Series S, and achieving higher frame rates requires compromising on graphics quality. Similarly, the developers of Baldur’s Gate 3 had to reduce VRAM usage by 34% to ensure stable performance on the Series S, highlighting the platform’s technical demands.
Rockstar’s Renowned Optimization Skills
Take-Two CEO Zelnick’s statements provide reassurance to Series S players regarding GTA 6’s performance. Rockstar Games has a proven track record of optimizing its games across platforms, and it is likely that the Xbox Series S version of GTA 6 will also be well-optimized and run smoothly.
GTA 6’s Anticipated Release Date
GTA 6 is expected to launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series in the fall of 2025. While the exact release date is yet to be announced, Zelnick remains confident in reaching the company’s targets.
