Apple may introduce its first 5G modem with iPhone SE 4

Apple is preparing to update its budget-friendly iPhone SE line with a new model expected to launch in the early months of 2024. The iPhone SE 4 will mark a significant shift for Apple, featuring two major changes: the company’s first in-house 5G modem and the transition to OLED display technology.

Apple’s Move into 5G

According to sources, the iPhone SE 4 will be the first model to feature Apple’s self-developed 5G modem. This new modem, which has been in development for a long time, is rumored to be an integrated chip that also includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS modules. Apple had initially collaborated with Intel to develop a mobile modem, but this partnership fell through due to legal disputes with Qualcomm. In response, Apple acquired Intel’s modem division, bringing the development in-house.

The performance of Apple’s 5G modem compared to Qualcomm’s remains a topic of curiosity. However, as this is Apple’s first attempt at its own 5G modem, expectations are being kept in check. The iPhone SE series is known for being the testing ground for some of Apple’s more experimental technologies.

Brighter Displays with OLED

Another major update in the iPhone SE 4 is the replacement of the LCD screen with an OLED display. With this shift, Apple will no longer have any LCD models in its iPhone lineup. OLED screens are known for delivering more vibrant colors and deeper blacks, offering users a superior visual experience.

The new model is also expected to feature Apple’s latest A18 chipset and the advanced AI capabilities of Apple Intelligence. These enhancements are likely to make the iPhone SE 4 a more powerful device in terms of performance.

A Year Full of Innovations

With the iPhone SE 4, Apple is gearing up to offer a competitive model in the budget-friendly segment. Its own 5G modem and OLED display represent Apple’s innovative strides in the tech industry. How the new model performs and resonates with consumers remains to be seen, but it certainly has the potential to make waves.
