According to recent reports, Tesla is in discussions with Michelin to use their airless tires on its vehicles. The concept of airless tires has been around for some time, but it has yet to become widely adopted in automobiles.
Airless tires offer significant advantages in terms of durability and safety, as they eliminate the risk of blowouts. They can also be lighter and more efficient depending on their design. Additionally, the worn tire surface can be replaced. Their long lifespan means they help reduce environmentally harmful tire waste, highlighting another important benefit.
French tire giant Michelin is among the manufacturers eager to bring airless tires to cars. The website “Not a Tesla app” confirmed that Michelin is in talks with Tesla regarding its airless tires named Uptis.
Michelin previously tested its airless tires on the Chevy Bolt EV. The company started these tests in 2019 and aimed to release the tires to the market by 2024.
