In the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix, George Russell emerged victorious. The British driver for Mercedes took advantage of the dramatic moments in the race to secure his second grand prix victory. Oscar Piastri finished second, while Carlos Sainz claimed the third spot on the podium.
The 11th race of the Formula 1 World Championship season, the Austrian Grand Prix, was held on the 4.3-kilometer Red Bull Ring circuit in Spielberg, Austria. The race was contested over a total of 71 laps.
Starting from third position, Russell capitalized on the 64th-lap collision between leader Max Verstappen and second-placed Lando Norris to take the lead. Russell completed the race in 1 hour, 24 minutes, and 22 seconds, marking a significant achievement in his career.
Australian driver Oscar Piastri of McLaren finished second, 1.906 seconds behind the leader. Spanish driver Carlos Sainz of Ferrari secured third place, trailing by 4.533 seconds. Following the collision, Norris retired from the race, while Verstappen, who received a 10-second penalty, finished in fifth place.
