Twitter is now officially 'x.com'

After months of announcing that the name of the microblogging site Twitter would be changed to “X,” Elon Musk, the owner of the company, officially declared today that all core systems of Twitter have been moved under the domain name “X.com.” This includes “twitter.com,” so typing twitter.com in your browser will now redirect you to x.com.

In addition to the URL change, the bottom of X’s homepage now includes a message: “We want to inform you that we have changed our URL, but your privacy and data protection settings will remain the same.”

In August 2023, it was announced that Twitter would henceforth be officially known as X. The company described the new platform as “a trusted digital town square for everyone.” Since then, new features added to the platform have been introduced under the “X” name, and existing features (like X Premium) have been renamed accordingly. The URL change represents the final step in the transformation of Twitter.

For Elon Musk, the name “X” holds significant importance. The famous billionaire founded X.com in 1999 as an internet bank, which later merged with PayPal. Twenty years later, Musk repurchased the X.com domain from PayPal. Now, Musk envisions X.com as a multifunctional platform for social media, financial transactions, live streaming, orders, and more. According to him, this will be the “everything app.”

With this change, Twitter, one of the giants of social media, bids farewell to its past while continuing as X, a platform reshaped and expanded according to Elon Musk’s vision.
