Wednesday Season 3: Filming Wraps as Winona Ryder Joins the Cast

Netflix's hit series Wednesday has taken another major step toward its return, with production on the highly anticipated third season now officially complete. Alongside the announcement, Netflix released a new image from the upcoming season, showing Jenna Ortega's Wednesday Addams sitting behind a typewriter and once again embracing the character's signature mysterious atmosphere.

Directed in part by acclaimed filmmaker Tim Burton, Wednesday offers a fresh take on the long-running Addams Family universe. Instead of focusing on the entire family, the series places the spotlight on Wednesday Addams, the eccentric teenage daughter of the family, portrayed by Jenna Ortega.

Ortega's performance quickly became one of the defining elements of the Netflix series, helping Wednesday become one of the platform's most recognizable shows.

Familiar Faces Return

Several members of the established cast will return for the third season. Alongside Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Billie Piper and Fred Armisen are expected to reprise their respective roles.

The new season will also expand the ensemble with several new additions. Eva Green, Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan and Kennedy Moyer are joining the cast for the next chapter of the story.

One of the biggest surprises, however, is the arrival of Winona Ryder. The actress, who is closely associated with several of Tim Burton's most recognizable films, will appear in the third season as a guest star.

Her involvement adds another connection between Burton's cinematic world and the increasingly distinctive atmosphere of Wednesday.

A Darker Story Is Coming

The creative team behind Wednesday has indicated that the third season will take the series in a darker direction. Alfred Gough, one of the show's key creative figures, has teased a noticeably darker tone for the upcoming episodes.

Eva Green's character Ophelia is expected to play an important role in this new chapter. Details surrounding the character remain limited, including how she will connect to Wednesday and the wider Addams Family story.

Nevertheless, Ophelia is set to become one of the central elements of the new storyline, potentially adding another layer of mystery to the series.

The darker direction could push Wednesday's established combination of gothic atmosphere, mystery and dark humor into new territory as the story continues to expand.

When Will Wednesday Season 3 Be Released?

Netflix has not yet announced an official release date for the third season. As a result, there is currently no confirmed day or month for the show's return.

Previous reports from What's On Netflix suggested that Wednesday Season 3 is targeting a summer 2027 release. With filming now complete, the production is expected to move into post-production before Netflix eventually provides a more precise release window.

For now, the biggest milestone has been reached: production on the third season is officially finished. With new cast members, the surprise appearance of Winona Ryder and promises of a darker storyline, Wednesday is preparing to expand its strange and gothic universe once again.
