Xiaomi Unveils Skynomad N70: Up to 505 km of Electric Range and a Modular Interior

Xiaomi is continuing to expand its presence in the automotive industry with the introduction of the Skynomad N70. Positioned as the company's second vehicle, the N70 targets the highly competitive mid-to-large SUV segment in China. With a spacious five-seat cabin, an impressive electric driving range and an extensive technology package, the new model aims to stand out particularly through its battery capacity and flexible interior.

Rather than being a conventional battery-electric vehicle, the Skynomad N70 uses an extended-range electric vehicle, or EREV, architecture. The vehicle is primarily driven by electric motors, while a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine acts as a range extender. This approach combines the driving characteristics of an EV with the flexibility of a combustion-powered generator for longer journeys.

Two versions with up to 505 km of electric range

Xiaomi is offering the N70 in Pro and Max configurations. The entry-level N70 Pro starts at 209,900 yuan. It features a single electric motor producing 210 kW and powering the front wheels. A 52 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery provides up to 351 km of pure-electric range according to the CLTC testing cycle.

The more powerful N70 Max is priced at 239,900 yuan and features dual electric motors with all-wheel drive. Its combined output reaches 310 kW, while a larger 76 kWh ternary lithium battery increases the pure-electric range to as much as 505 km.

That figure is particularly notable for an EREV. Vehicles using range-extender technology typically rely on smaller batteries because the combustion engine provides additional flexibility. Xiaomi, however, has equipped the N70 Max with a relatively large battery, allowing it to deliver a much longer electric-only driving distance.

Both versions use a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine as a range extender, bringing the total driving range to more than 1,350 km. Fast charging is also a major selling point. Xiaomi says the N70 Max can gain approximately 310 km of additional range in just 15 minutes of charging.

A flexible and spacious cabin

The interior is another major focus of the N70. Built on Xiaomi's Kunlun architecture, the SUV features a completely flat floor and a five-rail seating system that allows the second-row seats to slide back and forth.

With the seats positioned for maximum passenger comfort, rear legroom can reach up to 1,410 mm. The arrangement is designed to provide a more comfortable experience, particularly during long-distance trips.

Cargo capacity is equally generous. The N70 offers 1,203 liters of standard trunk space, which can be expanded to 2,425 liters when the rear seats are folded down. This gives the SUV considerable flexibility for everyday use, family travel and transporting larger amounts of luggage.

A technology-focused cockpit

The N70's digital architecture is powered by Qualcomm's third-generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform and Xiaomi's HyperOS operating system.

The dashboard features a 16.1-inch 3K central display, an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster and a 20-inch head-up display. Rear passengers also receive a dedicated 21.4-inch entertainment screen.

Xiaomi has added another unusual feature to the cabin: a built-in 9-liter compressor refrigerator. The unit can both cool and heat its contents, reinforcing Xiaomi's focus on turning the vehicle into more than just a means of transportation.

Advanced driver assistance comes standard

Driver-assistance technology is another important component of the N70. Both versions come equipped with Xiaomi HAD, powered by Nvidia's Thor-U processor.

The system uses a forward-facing LiDAR sensor, 4D millimeter-wave radar and 11 high-definition cameras to monitor the vehicle's surroundings.

Xiaomi also says its advanced driver-assistance software will be provided free of charge for the lifetime of the vehicle. Supported functions include voice-controlled driving features, automatic lane changes and parking-space-level navigation in underground garages.

Deliveries set to begin later this year

Deliveries of the Xiaomi Skynomad N70 are scheduled to begin between October and November 2026. The SUV will initially be offered in six exterior colors: Distant Mountain Green, Butterfly Valley Blue, Cool Khaki, Volcanic Gray, Pearl White and Obsidian Black.

The N70 was introduced alongside several other major Xiaomi products, highlighting the company's broader push to connect its automotive and consumer technology ecosystems. The company also unveiled the Pad 9 Pro Max, featuring its in-house XRING O3 chip and a 13.3-inch 144 Hz display, as well as the Xiaomi 18 Fold foldable smartphone, which also uses the XRING O3 platform.

The Skynomad N70 represents Xiaomi's second major step into the automotive market and demonstrates that the company's ambitions extend beyond electric motors and battery technology. By combining a long electric range, a flexible cabin, advanced digital systems and sophisticated driver-assistance technology, Xiaomi is positioning the N70 as a technology-driven SUV designed to compete in one of China's most crowded automotive segments.
