2027 Renault Captur: New Design, Hybrid Power and a More Digital Cabin
Renault is preparing to take the successful Captur into its third generation. Originally launched in 2019 and significantly facelifted in 2024, the second-generation Captur continues to rank among Europe's 10 best-selling SUVs. Renault is now accelerating development of the next-generation model as it looks to maintain its position in the highly competitive B-SUV segment.
The third-generation Renault Captur is expected to make its debut toward the end of 2027. Like the upcoming sixth-generation Renault Clio, the new Captur will be built on the CMF-B platform. However, its exterior design is set to change considerably, giving the compact SUV a noticeably different identity.
A New Design Direction for the Captur
Renderings published by French automotive outlet L'Argus suggest that the next Captur will adopt several elements inspired by Renault's recent design language. The 2024 Embleme concept is reportedly one of the key references for the upcoming model.
The new Captur is expected to feature more pronounced body surfacing, sharper character lines and distinctive rear lighting. These changes should give the SUV a more dynamic and recognizable appearance compared with the current generation.
The front end is also expected to be more clearly differentiated from the new Clio. Reports suggest that the daytime running lights could be positioned horizontally below the main headlamp units. This layout would give the Captur a softer and more balanced visual character.
Some design cues from Renault's R-Space Lab concept could also make their way into the new model, potentially giving the front fascia a more experimental appearance while keeping it aligned with Renault's latest styling philosophy.
A More Digital Interior
The transformation will continue inside the cabin. Renault is expected to introduce a significantly updated interior influenced by the design philosophy already seen in the electric Renault 4 and Renault 5.
Technology will play a major role in the new cabin. The Captur is expected to receive Renault's openR link infotainment system, featuring a dual-horizontal-screen layout and integrated Google applications.
This setup should bring the Captur closer to Renault's latest generation of connected vehicles, while also giving the compact SUV a more modern digital environment for both drivers and passengers.
Hybrid Power Expected to Lead the Range
The powertrain lineup is expected to reflect Renault's gradual transition toward electrification. A 160-horsepower 1.8-liter hybrid engine is reportedly set to become one of the key powertrain options and could account for a large share of Captur sales.
A 120-horsepower 1.2 Eco-G petrol/LPG engine is also expected to remain available, while the entry-level range could include a 115-horsepower 1.2 TCe petrol engine.
However, the future of the conventional petrol engine may be relatively short-lived. Renault has set a target of moving toward an all-electric lineup in Europe by 2030, which could limit the long-term role of traditional internal-combustion engines in the company's future models.
No Fully Electric Captur Planned
One of the most notable aspects of Renault's strategy is the apparent decision not to develop a fully electric version of the next Captur.
According to reports from the French media, Renault has chosen to focus on the Renault 4 E-Tech as its main representative in the electric B-SUV segment rather than adding a battery-electric Captur to the lineup.
This would allow Renault to position the two models more distinctly instead of creating direct internal competition between products aimed at similar customers.
Expected toward the end of 2027, the next-generation Captur is shaping up to be a significant evolution of the current model. A bolder exterior, a more sophisticated digital interior and a strong focus on hybrid power are likely to define the new generation.
The absence of a fully electric version, meanwhile, could become one of the most interesting elements of Renault's broader strategy for the European B-SUV market.
