GTA 6’s 26-Minute Extended Look Is Here: New Details on Vice City, Jason and Lucia

Rockstar Games has released a new 26-minute “Extended Look” video for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI, offering one of the most detailed looks yet at the next chapter in the legendary open-world series. The video was previously shown on Netflix before becoming available through Rockstar’s official channels.

According to Rockstar, every scene shown in the presentation was captured directly from a PlayStation 5. However, the Extended Look is not a traditional uninterrupted gameplay demonstration. Instead, it combines cinematic sequences with selected gameplay moments to introduce the world, atmosphere, characters and ambitions behind GTA 6.

Jason and Lucia’s Vice City adventure takes center stage

Grand Theft Auto VI revolves around its two protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. The pair will explore the criminal underworld of Vice City and the wider state of Leonida as their story unfolds through dangerous heists, police chases and violent confrontations.

The new video shows Jason and Lucia taking part in shootouts, escaping from law enforcement and carrying out high-risk robberies. However, Rockstar is also placing a much greater emphasis on ordinary moments between the two characters.

They can be seen talking inside cars, discussing everyday matters and even arguing over what they should wear. These quieter scenes suggest that GTA 6 will place a stronger focus on the relationship between its protagonists than previous entries in the series.

The Extended Look also includes glimpses of gunfights, vehicle chases, basketball, scuba diving and other activities scattered throughout the world.

Jason and Lucia’s relationship can change the gameplay

One of GTA 6’s most interesting new systems is expected to be the dynamic relationship between Jason and Lucia. Players will be able to switch between the two characters, much like the multiple-protagonist system introduced in GTA 5.

However, this option may be temporarily disabled during certain story sequences. While controlling one protagonist, players can contact the other through the in-game phone or messaging system and invite them to their location.

The two characters can then spend time together, explore Leonida or take part in different activities.

Players will also be able to change seats while both protagonists are inside the same vehicle. One character can take over the driving while the other sits in the passenger seat. During chases, one character can drive while the other fires at pursuing enemies.

The relationship between Jason and Lucia will not simply be a scripted background element. Spending time together, shopping, exploring the map, visiting the barber, working out or participating in robberies may strengthen their bond.

Their relationship does not necessarily have to become romantic. Players may shape them as lovers, close friends or simply criminal partners. While a romantic relationship reportedly will not provide a direct gameplay advantage, the strength of their bond may influence certain parts of the story.

If Jason and Lucia spend too much time apart, messages from one character to the other may begin to appear. Ignoring these interactions repeatedly could negatively affect their relationship.

Players may even be able to hold hands while walking around the city or open doors for one another.

A more interactive and dynamic safehouse system

Jason and Lucia will be able to live together in the same safehouse, although each character will maintain an independent daily routine.

Rockstar appears to be taking the safehouse concept far beyond the traditional homes seen in previous GTA games. These locations are reportedly designed to feel more like the living camps of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Other characters may visit and leave the safehouse, helping the player's home feel more active and dynamic.

Character customization will also offer more options. Players will be able to trim hair and facial hair, while visiting a barber or hairdresser will be necessary to unlock completely new styles.

Both protagonists can own multiple personal vehicles. Car trunks will be functional and can be used to store spare clothing and weapons.

This may become particularly important while escaping from the police, as changing clothes could help players avoid detection.

Character appearance can change over time

Jason and Lucia's physical appearance may also be influenced by the activities players choose.

Going to the gym could increase muscle mass and physical strength, while eating too much may result in weight gain. Food is also expected to play a more meaningful role in the characters' health.

Players will be able to work out, eat and participate in other activities alone or together.

The system appears to bring back some of the character development ideas introduced in GTA: San Andreas, but with a more modern approach.

GTA 6 could feature one of Rockstar’s biggest maps ever

According to TGG, who attended a preview event at Rockstar North, GTA 6's world will be enormous.

The map of Leonida is reportedly around twice the size of the GTA 5 map and three times larger than the world of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Vice City itself is said to be roughly twice the size of Los Santos, while the city and its surrounding suburbs could offer a significantly larger environment than anything seen around Los Santos.

The map interface is also expected to receive a major overhaul. Rather than relying solely on the familiar block and street design of previous GTA titles, the game could use a more detailed presentation inspired by satellite imagery.

Rockstar will reportedly encourage players to leave the main story behind and explore the world freely.

Unexpected encounters may take place far away from traditional mission markers. Players could discover strange characters, unusual situations and opportunities that do not appear on the main map.

Snapmatic returns, but Jason and Lucia need to stay hidden

The in-game smartphone will include an Instagram-like app called Snapmatic. However, Jason and Lucia will need to be careful about leaving a digital footprint due to their involvement in criminal activities.

Rather than freely posting their own photos, the protagonists will reportedly be able to follow other accounts and view content from people across Leonida.

This could provide another way for Rockstar to make the game world feel alive and constantly active.

More realistic NPCs and animals

GTA 6 will include a wide range of activities, including pool, mini golf, canoeing, zoo visits, scuba diving, skydiving and gym workouts.

Animals found in the wilderness or at the zoo may be examined and added to a discovery list, a system that appears to draw inspiration from Red Dead Redemption 2.

NPCs are also expected to be much more diverse than in previous Rockstar games. Civilians will have greater variation in height, weight and body shape.

The animation system could dynamically adapt to these physical differences, making interactions with the environment and other characters appear more natural.

Players will be able to listen to NPC conversations, although following or secretly observing someone for too long could cause suspicion.

Some civilians may carry weapons and, under certain circumstances, attack Jason or Lucia.

These interactions will reportedly serve more than an atmospheric purpose. NPC encounters may trigger new missions and activities.

Jason or Lucia could also suggest nearby activities while traveling. Accepting the suggestion might completely change the player's original plans.

The new Focus system could help players during exploration and escapes

GTA 6 is also expected to feature a new Focus system.

This mechanic may help players identify important objects, useful opportunities and environmental details that could otherwise be missed.

The system could be especially valuable during police pursuits, helping players locate escape routes, hiding places and other useful options.

Escaping the police will be much more difficult

The wanted system in GTA 6 is expected to be significantly more advanced.

Police will not necessarily appear the instant a crime is committed. A witness may first need to see what happened, or an alarm system may need to be triggered.

Once officers arrive, they will have access to specific information about the crime.

The area where the crime occurred may remain a “hot zone” even after Jason and Lucia have left. Police can continue searching the location before eventually returning the area to normal.

The classic six-star wanted system is also expected to return, replacing the five-star structure used in GTA 5.

Escaping a low-level wanted status may be relatively straightforward, but reaching six stars could result in the series' signature large-scale and chaotic police chases.

Police will reportedly be able to identify not only a character's face but also their clothing.

Different icons beneath the wanted level may indicate exactly what information the police have about the player.

Changing a hairstyle could remove some identifying information, while changing clothes may be necessary to completely alter the description available to law enforcement.

This makes keeping spare outfits inside vehicle trunks particularly important.

Wearing a mask during a crime may prevent the police from identifying the character's face. Even if CCTV cameras record the player, the mask could make it harder for law enforcement to build a useful description.

Police may also recognize the vehicle used during a crime, making it important to abandon a known car and switch to another vehicle.

Jason and Lucia can split up during an escape

If the police know that Jason and Lucia are connected, the two characters may be able to separate during an escape.

When law enforcement has not fully identified a character, the wanted indicators may appear differently, allowing players to understand how much information the police actually possess.

Gunfights will offer more tactical choices

GTA 6 will reportedly give players more freedom during combat.

Killing an enemy will not always be necessary. Players may be able to target arms or legs and incapacitate opponents without using lethal force.

The game will also feature a new Criminal Profile system.

While it may resemble the Honor system from Red Dead Redemption 2, it will not simply classify players as good or evil.

Unnecessary violence, excessive chaos and criminal behavior could change the protagonists' profiles, but even small actions, such as properly disposing of trash, may have an influence.

Money will play a bigger role in the story

Rockstar is also placing greater emphasis on money in GTA 6.

Unlike previous games, players may sometimes need to earn a certain amount of cash in order to continue progressing through the main story.

Stealing and selling vehicles, robbing businesses, carrying out store robberies and participating in bank heists will be among the primary ways to earn money.

Heists will require players to balance speed and profit.

Spending too much time inside a location could give the police an opportunity to surround the building or block possible escape routes.

Alternative exits, back doors and carefully planned escape paths could therefore become essential.

Stolen goods, including jewelry and vehicles, may not be sold directly. Players will need to work with specialized intermediaries who deal in stolen property.

Stealing cars will become a deeper gameplay system

Vehicle theft, one of the defining features of the GTA series, is expected to receive a significant overhaul.

Not every parked car will be easy to enter.

Vehicles may have different security levels, and stealing expensive cars could require specific tools or equipment.

However, cars with a driver already inside can still be hijacked using the more traditional GTA approach.

The condition of a stolen vehicle will also affect its value. Delivering a heavily damaged car to a buyer could significantly reduce the amount of money players receive.

Narrower streets and heavier traffic may also make it more difficult to deliver stolen vehicles without causing damage.

Story missions will focus more heavily on choices and exploration

GTA 6's story will include both major and minor decisions.

Small choices may gradually accumulate and lead to larger consequences, while certain major decisions could immediately change the direction of the story.

Rockstar is reportedly designing the narrative with replayability in mind.

Missions will also offer players more freedom. During a police chase, for example, the game may suggest an escape route, but players will still be able to ignore it and find their own way out.

This could make missions more flexible and encourage players to experiment with different approaches.

When will GTA VI be released?

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026.

The game is expected to have a starting price of $79.99 and will initially be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Based on the new 26-minute Extended Look and the detailed information emerging from Rockstar's private previews, GTA 6 is shaping up to be far more than simply a larger and better-looking sequel.

With a dynamic relationship between Jason and Lucia, a more advanced police system, highly reactive NPCs, deeper vehicle mechanics and a stronger focus on player choices, GTA 6 could become Rockstar's most ambitious open-world experience yet.
