F1: Cadillac Appoints Marcin Budkowski as Its New Team Principal
Cadillac has made a major change to its management structure during its debut Formula 1 season. The American team has announced that Marcin Budkowski will become its new team principal, bringing Graeme Lowdon's tenure at the helm of the organization to an end.
The leadership change marks a new phase for Cadillac as the team looks beyond simply establishing itself on the Formula 1 grid and begins focusing on its long-term ambition of becoming a competitive front-running operation.
Budkowski brings more than two decades of F1 experience
The 49-year-old Marcin Budkowski joins Cadillac with an extensive background in Formula 1. The Polish-French engineer has held senior positions with organizations including Prost, Ferrari, McLaren and the FIA, before most recently working in a senior management role at Alpine.
His experience spans technical engineering, organizational management and strategic decision-making, giving him a broad understanding of the complex structure of a modern Formula 1 team.
Budkowski will officially take charge of Cadillac's trackside operations from the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.
Cadillac wants more than simply a place on the grid
Cadillac F1 Team CEO Dan Towriss described the appointment as an important step in the team's ongoing development.
According to Towriss, Cadillac's ambition has never been limited to participating in Formula 1. The long-term objective is to build a new-generation organization capable of competing at the front of the field.
The team also thanked Graeme Lowdon for his contribution during Cadillac's creation and entry into Formula 1. Lowdon played a key leadership role in building the organization from the ground up and establishing the foundations for its debut season.
The latest management change signals a transition from the team's initial setup phase toward a stronger focus on performance and development.
Budkowski wants faster and smarter decision-making
Budkowski emphasized Cadillac's ambition and outlined a strategy centered on maximizing development within the cost cap while aligning every part of the organization around competitiveness.
His priorities extend beyond simply making the car faster. Improving communication between technical departments, accelerating decision-making and reducing operational errors during race weekends will also be key areas of focus.
The new team principal wants to establish a culture built around determination, attention to detail and the ability to make precise decisions under pressure.
A crucial next chapter for Cadillac
For a new Formula 1 team, the first seasons are about much more than on-track results. Building an efficient organization, establishing reliable processes and creating the right technical structure are equally important.
Cadillac is now attempting to move beyond its initial foundation-building phase and enter a more performance-oriented period. Budkowski's extensive Formula 1 experience could prove valuable during this transition, although his success will ultimately depend on how effectively the team converts its resources, knowledge and infrastructure into measurable performance gains.
His first major challenge will come at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort following the summer break. How quickly Cadillac's new leadership structure translates into improved performance will be one of the key stories to follow during the second half of the season.
