Spain Become the First Finalists of the 2026 FIFA World Cup
Spain have secured their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final after defeating France 2-0 in an impressive semi-final performance.
Played at AT&T Stadium in Texas, the match was largely controlled by the Spanish side from start to finish. Spain dominated possession, created the better scoring opportunities, and limited France's attacking threat throughout the game. Remarkably, France did not register their first shot until the 82nd minute.
Oyarzabal and Porro seal the victory
Spain broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute after Lamine Yamal was brought down inside the penalty area. Mikel Oyarzabal calmly converted the penalty to give his team a deserved lead.
The Spanish side maintained their momentum after halftime and doubled the advantage in the 58th minute through Pedro Porro, putting the result beyond doubt.
Lamine Yamal also found the back of the net shortly after, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
France struggle to respond
France found it difficult to build meaningful attacks against Spain's disciplined defensive structure. Injuries and midfield struggles further disrupted their rhythm, allowing Spain to remain comfortably in control for most of the match.
One of the game's final talking points came when Kylian Mbappé received a yellow card after committing a foul on Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simón.
Spain await their final opponent
With this victory, Spain become the first nation to book their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. They will face the winner of the other semi-final between Argentina and England.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup Final is scheduled to be played on July 19, where Spain will have the opportunity to compete for football's biggest prize.
