Mirra Andreeva Makes History at 2026 Roland Garros as Chwalinska’s Fairytale Run Ends in the Final

Mirra Andreeva claimed her first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros 2026, defeating Poland’s Maja Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 in the final to lift the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen in Paris.

The 19-year-old Russian star’s victory marked a historic moment in tennis. Andreeva became the youngest Roland Garros champion since Iga Swiatek in 2020, and more significantly, the youngest woman to win the title since Monica Seles in 1992, who lifted the trophy at just 18 years old.

Despite the loss, Maja Chwalinska delivered one of the most remarkable runs in Roland Garros history. Coming through the qualifying rounds, she became the first qualifier in the Open Era—male or female—to reach the Roland Garros final. Ranked No. 114 at the start of the tournament, she also became one of the lowest-ranked finalists ever in WTA history.

During the trophy ceremony, Chwalinska delivered a light-hearted and emotional speech, congratulating Andreeva and joking about how frustratingly talented her opponent is, which drew laughter from the crowd. She also thanked fans for their support throughout the tournament.

Andreeva, in her winner’s speech, praised Chwalinska’s incredible journey and acknowledged how difficult she was as an opponent. She also expressed her joy at winning a tournament she grew up watching and called it a dream come true.

The victory is expected to elevate Andreeva from No. 8 to No. 6 in the WTA rankings, while Chwalinska will make a massive leap from No. 114 to No. 21, marking a breakthrough moment in her career. Andreeva is also projected to move into the No. 1 spot in the season-long WTA Race standings, overtaking the players who had dominated much of the year.
