Antonelli Triumphs at the F1 2026 Canadian Grand Prix After a Dramatic Race Weekend
The 2026 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix delivered a thrilling spectacle filled with unpredictable weather, strategic battles, and intense wheel-to-wheel racing. In the end, Kimi Antonelli emerged victorious after an impressive performance, while Lewis Hamilton finished second and Max Verstappen completed the podium in third place.
Before the race began, dark clouds surrounded the Montreal circuit, with rain chances estimated at around 50 percent. Drivers were already expressing concerns regarding tire performance and grip levels during the formation lap.
Unexpected drama unfolded before the race even officially started. The lights did not go out as planned, forcing an additional formation lap. Arvid Lindblad then suffered a technical issue that prevented him from moving his car, forcing an early retirement before the race had even begun.
When the race finally got underway, Lando Norris made a brilliant start and quickly took control of the lead. However, pit strategies and tire decisions soon changed the entire picture.
As rivals headed into the pits, Kimi Antonelli inherited the race lead. But the biggest battle came within the Mercedes garage itself. Antonelli and George Russell engaged in several intense fights, trading attacks and defending aggressively throughout multiple laps.
Russell briefly gained the upper hand at times, but Antonelli remained composed and continued applying pressure. The young driver showed impressive maturity, waiting for the right moments to strike.
The race's turning point came around lap 30 when Russell lost control of his car and retired from the event. Antonelli regained the lead and from that point onward managed the race with confidence.
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton was quietly building momentum. The experienced driver steadily reduced the gap to Max Verstappen and eventually launched a decisive overtake on lap 62 to secure second place.
Antonelli controlled the final laps without making any mistakes and crossed the finish line with a comfortable gap of nearly ten seconds.
Final podium results:
- Kimi Antonelli

- Max Verstappen
With this victory, Antonelli not only secured another major Formula 1 win but also further established himself as one of the sport's most exciting rising stars.
