UAE and Qatar to Cover Accommodation Costs for Stranded Travelers

Following recent developments in the Middle East and the closure of airspace, thousands of travelers have found themselves stranded. In response, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar have announced that they will cover hotel and accommodation expenses for those unable to leave the country.

In the UAE, the suspension of air traffic has left approximately 20,200 passengers stranded. In response, the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) sent an official email to hotels requesting that stranded guests be accommodated at their original reservation rates. For travelers unable to afford the costs, hotels are instructed to notify DET so that the government can assume financial responsibility.

Similarly, Qatar has taken supportive measures. The Qatar Tourism Ministry issued a circular urging foreign visitors in the country to extend their stays. All associated accommodation expenses will be covered by the ministry, aiming to reduce inconvenience and ensure orderly management of the situation.

Although commercial flights in the UAE have been suspended, exceptional outbound flights are being arranged to facilitate departures. Airlines including Emirates and Etihad Airways are contacting passengers directly to provide updates on flight arrangements. Authorities have advised travelers not to go to the airport unless they are directly informed.

In Qatar, all flights have been halted, and passengers are strongly advised to avoid heading to the airport without official notification.

As the crisis continues to disrupt regional air travel, the measures announced by the UAE and Qatar stand out as significant efforts to mitigate the impact on stranded travelers. The duration of the restrictions remains uncertain, with attention now focused on when airspace operations will resume.
