Production of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold Is Coming to An End
Renowned for pushing the boundaries of mobile innovation, Samsung captured global attention with its first tri-fold smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold. However, the device’s journey in the market has proven to be unexpectedly brief.
According to reports from South Korea, sales of the Galaxy Z TriFold will officially end on March 17, roughly three months after its debut in South Korea. In the United States, the device will remain available only until existing inventory runs out. With a price tag of around $3,000 and extremely limited supply, the phone has been difficult to obtain from the very beginning.
Limited Production, Rapid Sellouts
From the outset, it was clear that the Galaxy Z TriFold was never intended for mass production. Samsung released the device exclusively through its official website in small batches, each selling out within minutes. Reports suggest that around 3,000 units were sold during the first two waves alone.
Another notable detail is the absence of widespread media review units, reinforcing the idea that this device was positioned more as a concept showcase rather than a mainstream commercial product.
Rising Costs Undermined Profitability
Industry insiders indicate that the TriFold was designed more as a technological statement than a profit-driven product. Increasing costs of key components such as DRAM and NAND flash significantly reduced profit margins, making the device commercially unsustainable.
Despite this, the phone briefly gained traction in the resale market. In South Korea, some units were reportedly sold for nearly three times their official retail price, highlighting the strong demand driven by its rarity and innovative design.
