Apple Unveils New MacBook Air and Pro Models with M5 Chips

Apple has refreshed its 2026 lineup with new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models powered by the next-generation M5 processors. The announcement also includes two new additions to the Studio Display series.

MacBook Air with M5

The 2026 MacBook Air now features the M5 chip, first introduced last year in the 14-inch MacBook Pro and iPad Pro. It retains the 10-core CPU and 8- or 10-core GPU layout but runs at higher speeds, with each GPU core now including a neural accelerator.

Base storage has doubled to 512GB and now scales up to 4TB. Memory starts at 16GB and maxes out at 32GB. Connectivity has been upgraded to Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and a faster 40W Dynamic Power Adapter replaces older chargers. Pricing has increased by $100, with the 13-inch model starting at $1099 and the 15-inch at $1299.

MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max

The MacBook Pro lineup introduces the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. The 14-inch model supports M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max configurations, while the 16-inch version is available only with Pro and Max chips.

Built on Apple’s Fusion Architecture, the M5 Pro and Max combine dual dies into a single SoC. They include up to six high-performance cores and up to 12 additional performance cores. GPU configurations range between 16 and 40 cores.

Memory starts at 24GB and scales up to 128GB, while storage begins at 1TB and reaches 8TB. Prices have increased by $200, starting at $2199 for the 14-inch and $2699 for the 16-inch models.

New Studio Displays

The updated Studio Display retains its 27-inch 5K 60Hz IPS panel but adds a 12MP webcam, triple-mic array, six-speaker spatial audio system, and Thunderbolt 5. It remains priced at $1599.

The new Studio Display XDR features a 27-inch 5K 120Hz IPS panel with mini-LED backlighting and 2304 local dimming zones. It delivers 1000 nits in SDR and 2000 nits in HDR and supports wider color gamuts such as Adobe RGB. It is priced at $3299 and replaces the discontinued Pro Display XDR.
