Next-Generation Toyota Yaris to Adopt Multi-Energy Strategy

As the automotive industry continues its rapid transformation, Toyota is preparing a comprehensive overhaul for its popular B-segment model, the Yaris. Expected to debut in late 2027 or sometime in 2028, the next-generation Yaris will bring the brand’s “multi-energy” strategy—first introduced with the new Corolla—into the compact class.

According to Toyota Europe’s Vice President of Strategy and Marketing, Andrea Carlucci, the company remains firmly positioned in the small-car segment and is actively developing a fully electric Yaris. However, the electric version will not replace the hybrid; instead, both will coexist within the lineup.

The new Yaris will be built on a flexible platform capable of supporting internal combustion engines, hybrid systems, and fully electric powertrains. Regardless of the chosen energy source, all variants will share the same design language, interior technologies, and brand identity, offering customers multiple options without compromising consistency.

The fully electric model is expected to deliver a driving range of around 400 kilometers to remain competitive in its class. Meanwhile, the hybrid version aims to maintain—or even improve upon—the impressive fuel efficiency that has defined the Yaris nameplate.

Modern Design and Advanced Cabin

Toyota plans to introduce its latest design language to the new Yaris. Sharper body lines, slim high-tech headlights, and a more refined front fascia will give the compact model a more premium and futuristic appearance while maintaining its practical dimensions.

Inside, the cabin will undergo a significant transformation. Fully redesigned digital interfaces, larger glass surfaces, tablet-style displays, and a more spacious layout are expected to enhance comfort and usability. Improved storage solutions and a cleaner cockpit design will further modernize the driving experience.

Expected Launch Timeline

Based on Toyota’s traditional product cycles, the next-generation Yaris is likely to be unveiled in 2027. However, the development of an entirely new platform and the integration of multiple powertrain options could push the launch to 2028.

By combining electric, hybrid, and combustion technologies within a single model family, Toyota aims to future-proof the Yaris while appealing to a broad range of drivers in an evolving mobility landscape.
