How Will The Simpsons End? Producer Hints at an Unusual Finale

The long-running animated series Simpsonlar has been the subject of finale speculation for years. Fans have long wondered when and how the iconic show will come to an end. Now, new comments from the production team suggest the conclusion may be far from traditional.

Premiering in 1989 and now reaching its 37th season and 800th episode, the show’s executive figure Matt Selman revealed that if the series does end, it won’t follow the usual emotional farewell format.

“There Won’t Be a Traditional Finale”

According to Selman, the show will likely avoid a conventional series finale altogether. About a year and a half ago, the team created an episode that parodied the idea of a finale by cramming every possible ending concept into a single story.

That episode, Selman explained, was essentially their way of saying they may never produce a traditional ending. If the show eventually concludes, it will likely feel like any other episode.

“It would just be another story about the family,” Selman noted. “There might be small surprises, but nothing overly sentimental or final.”

A Timeless, Resetting Universe

Selman emphasized that the timeless nature of the show is key to its identity. Characters reset each week, maintaining a consistent world that rarely changes. He compared the structure to Bugün Aslında Dündü, where events repeat endlessly without the characters fully realizing it.

Despite this reset structure, recent seasons have seen several characters permanently written out, marking rare moments of continuity in the show.

Character Deaths and Fan Reactions

In recent years, the series has killed off several characters, including church organist Alice Glick. First introduced in 1991 and originally voiced by Cloris Leachman, the character continued with Tress MacNeille after Leachman’s passing in 2021.

Executive producer Tim Long confirmed the character’s death, explaining that such storylines aim to highlight the dignity and value of even minor figures in everyday life. The earlier death of longtime background character Larry the Barfly also sparked strong reactions from viewers.

Film as a Possible Farewell?

There is ongoing speculation that a future movie could serve as a final goodbye. A sequel to Simpsonlar: Sinema Filmi has been rumored as a potential concluding chapter for the franchise, though nothing has been officially confirmed.

For now, it seems that if The Simpsons ever ends, it will do so in its own unique way—quietly, casually, and without the grand farewell fans might expect.
