Carlos Alcaraz Crowned Champion at the 2026 Australian Open
The Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, delivered a thrilling men’s singles final in Melbourne. Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz defeated Serbia’s Novak Djokovic 3–1 to claim the championship and secure one of the most significant victories of his career.
World No.1 Alcaraz faced fourth seed Djokovic in a high-quality final marked by intensity and tactical depth. Djokovic started strongly, breaking serve early and dominating the opening set, which he won 6–2 in just 33 minutes.
Alcaraz responded with greater aggression in the second set, breaking Djokovic’s serve twice and increasing his number of winners. The Spaniard took the set 6–2 in 36 minutes to level the match.
In the third set, Djokovic struggled with unforced errors, while Alcaraz showcased impressive defense and composure under pressure. Winning two of his six break-point opportunities, Alcaraz secured the set 6–3 to take a 2–1 lead.
The fourth set was fiercely contested, featuring long rallies and intense service games. Alcaraz broke Djokovic’s serve in the final game to win the set 7–5, sealing a 3–1 victory after 3 hours and 2 minutes of play.
This triumph marked Alcaraz’s first Australian Open title and his seventh Grand Slam championship overall.
By winning all four major tournaments — the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open — Alcaraz completed a career Grand Slam at the age of 22 years and 272 days, becoming the youngest player in history to achieve the feat.
Djokovic, who holds 24 Grand Slam titles, narrowly missed out on his 25th, while Alcaraz earned a prize of 4.15 million Australian dollars for his historic victory.
